Stocking Up

We came back home on Tuesday instead of Wednesday, mainly because the weather in the Northland was just so crappy. Not that it’s much better here, but at least at home we accomplish more while inside.

I showed you pictures of the first snowfall on Saturday. Well, it snowed again on Monday but that didn’t stop us from going on our annual fall stock up shopping trip. We went back to the farm that sells corn and sunflower seeds and bought enough to feed our furry and feathered friends for the next year. This is the place that uses the honor system. You load your stuff and then you leave the money in the metal box on the desk.

Loading corn & sunflower seeds at Danielsen's by SpoonerWhile driving along and trying to ignore the persistent snowfall I saw a small white sign with an arrow and red letters that said CRANBERRIES. Woo hoo! Most of the bogs around us have stopped selling berries to the public, but this Ocean Spray bog still does. We’re making mental and written notes about this place.

Anyway as we drive down the road, we see the workers out there harvesting the berries. Does this look cold or what?

Inside the Cranberry Shop was the nicest lady. She let us try fresh cranberries dipped in caramel sauce. Whoa! That was good. Tasted like a bite size taffy apple. We bought 10 pounds to freeze and use for sauce and other goodies. We like cranberries…

So now we’re home. Laundry’s done, groceries bought, flu shots given and Jim is on his special deer hunt today even though it’s raining. Talk about dedication or maybe it’s mental illness!
