This year Jim and I decided not to buy each other Christmas gifts and instead get a new computer for the cabin.  We'll also upgrade our internet service from satellite to DSL.  But that will all happen in a few months.  We give gifts to my niece and nephews but don't exchange with brothers and sisters anymore.  So, as far as my Christmas haul goes, there wasn't much under the tree for Cindy this

We’re back home and this morning I was finally able to check out the new grocery store in our ‘hood. Our house is about a mile away from 5 different grocery stores. Early Saturday morning, the first snow of the season fell upon the Northland. It was sunny for awhile that morning and some of it melted, but it turned cloudy, windy and very unseasonably cold. I go in spurts with making pincushions and this week I whipped up three more. For awhile there, it was like I couldn't stop. Too much pretty felt and thread. I don’t really have anything to write about today, so I thought I’d let you know the noodles I made yesterday were excellent!  Very easy to make and they tasted just like Grandma’s!  It was a delicious pot of vegetable beef noodle soup and there’s plenty left over.  Somehow my idea of making a small pot of soup didn’t happen.  But we all know how much better soup is the second day. Just like every other time when we get home it’s a day of mail and laundry. I brought back enough staples that I don’t need to go right out and get groceries. I had just enough celery, carrots and onions to add to the chunk of meat that was in the freezer to start up a nice pot of soup. And I feel just domestic enough today to try making homemade noodles. We got a call from Spinners last night, saying a storm had gone through and 4 or 5 trees were down across our driveway. Terry said Spin would clear them so we would be able to drive in when we get there on Friday. Thanks Spin! No wonder the Town of Gordon has Good Neighbor Fest. We have good neighbors.

Looks like I've missed a whole week here. Well, we have been busy, but what else is new. Friday night we had the rehearsal for Andrea and Ron's wedding. Saturday we went to Ted's and he gave us a bunch of asparagus. Sunday was the Flea Market at Jefferson and over at Northgate. Monday we just hung out here. We saw a pair checking out our old, old birdhouses the other day, so Jim got right to it and built 2 brand new ones for any interested Bluebirds. That was on Wednesday. Then on Thursday we watched them check out one of the new houses. It's a carbon copy of yesterday...as far as the weather goes.This morning, we walked along the Holmes Camp road, then took Molly down to the St Croix for a swim. Eagles were everywhere! Saw 5 all together. They were eyeing up the suckers swimming up stream.Jim's building bluebird boxes today. Hopefully the pair that was checking out the little old ones will come back and set up housekeeping.

Absolutely a gorgeous day today! Spring is busting out all over the place. It's still too dry to have a campfire. I really want to do some roasting...marshmallows and hot dogs and try making panini in the pudgy pie tins. But the risk is too high! One of these days, it will rain enough to green things up and the fire danger will go away...I hope!

Even though it's the day after Cinco de Mayo, doesn't mean it's too late to make a batch of salsa. Here's my own concoction made with canned tomatoes.
